Top kitchen trends coming in 2022

While the way we live and use our spaces has changed significantly over the past couple of years, there’s one thing that has absolutely remained the same: the kitchen is the hub of the home. A great kitchen not only adds significant value to your home, but increases liveability, and is a central place to cook, gather, eat and entertain.

Dreaming of your own kitchen facelift in 2022? Here are some of the recent kitchen trends the Dream Doors Kitchens teams across Australia have loved and expect to grow in 2022. Check them out – you never know what ideas you might spot to incorporate into your very own upgrade.

Our favourite kitchen trends of 2021

Just like during the year preceding it, in 2021 people spent plenty of time at home – meaning their kitchens needed to work even harder than usual. This led to a big focus on upgrading storage solutions and ensuring every part of the kitchen performed well.

Technology was also high on the priority list in kitchens. Additions like built-in chargers and speakers were popular, while touchless taps not only made life easier, but were also a great way to reduce the spread of germs on high touchpoint handles.

We also saw people looking to add some personality to their kitchens with statement splashbacks, from custom prints, to tiles, stone, mirrors and even mosaics.

What are the kitchen trends for 2022?

Looking to the new year, here are some of the kitchen trends for 2022 the Dream Doors Kitchens design experts predict we’ll be seeing in kitchens in the near future.

Monochromes and gold features

Timeless monochrome colours will be the canvas for high end kitchens, with pops of colour coming through in features like gold finishing or coloured splashbacks. Blac, indigo blue and sage green colours are most on-trend. We’ve also seen an increase in demand for completely custom colours, which our local Dream Doors Kitchens teams make possible with polyurethane paint.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is really having a design moment all throughout the house, and the kitchen is no exception. Don’t fret about accidental splashes, heat or steam though—there are now wallpaper options designed specifically with kitchens in mind.

Kitchen home office

Most homes have needed to find a space (or three or four) for working and studying from home, and this has seen a lot of people turn to the kitchen or dining area as a work option. While ideally homeschooling is behind us and working from home is less of a necessity, it’s unlikely to completely remove itself from modern life. A kitchen can be designed to incorporate a convertible study nook, or at least a comfortable bench space to study and work.

Sustainable kitchens

With sustainability an increasingly important factor, kitchens are not only turning green in hue. There are plenty of kitchen design ideas you can incorporate to make your kitchen greener, from installing energy efficient appliances, to reducing waste by incorporating recycling bins or food composting options to your kitchen design. You can also look to incorporate responsibly sourced materials or even some recycled materials. If you’re renovating, look to recycle as much of the existing kitchen as possible. Dream Doors Kitchen designers can help you do this with a kitchen facelift, where much of your existing kitchen is reused, while still achieving an impressive kitchen makeover.

Smarter appliances

Touchless taps are just the tip of the iceberg. Appliances are not only getting more environmentally friendly, they’re also getting a whole lot smarter. Think appliances that you can control via voice or via an app, ovens that pre-heat themselves, toasters that know just how you like your toast, coffee machines that know when to make you a coffee, or devices that can service themselves.

With a kitchen facelift, your local Dream Doors Kitchens team will use as much of your existing kitchen structure as possible, and just replace doors, handles, benchtops, and splashbacks to give you a fresh new look.
