Simple Design Tips to Transform Your Kitchenby: Shaynna Blaze
There are so many opportunities to incorporate great design and functionality features into the kitchen.
The kitchen is one of my favourite rooms in the house, and in Petersham the custom kitchen was a big deal.
It was designed with the heritage feel of the front of the house in mind, and then replicated in the modern extension at the back.
By incorporating these simple design features, the kitchen can be transformed into a luxurious space.
Hidden Power Sockets
Useful spots are on the side of the bench and in the pantry, where you can hide most of your small appliances.
No one likes to see unsightly rubbish building up in the home. Integrating bins into a cupboard hides the mess, leaving the area clutter-free.
Switch the Surfaces
The Petersham home has a variety of surfaces that really work together, like the zig zag shape of the luxurious marble tiles on the splashback and the herringbone pattern in the parquetry flooring. The traditional door fronts of the grey cabinetry also make the smooth, stone benchtops a beautiful, stand-out feature.
Light It Up
Lighting is a key element in any kitchen design. Look at mixing task lighting and feature lighting – both are important for a functional and stylish kitchen.
Other features that really gave this kitchen the wow factor included the big butler’s sink and the T-bone island, which has a dining zone and seating for six to make the area a place all the family can gather.
