Do-It-Yourself Do-OversCase Study of Paige and Brendan from Perth
As contractors, our Dream Doors team all too frequently is called in to redo home repair jobs. While it certainly makes sense for homeowners to handle simple jobs such as paint touch ups or some light plumbing, taking on advanced carpentry work is not a project you want to attempt unless you’ve got some serious experience under your belt.
Paige and Brendan from Perth discovered that the hard way. After years of being dissatisfied with their kitchen, Brendan decided to work on the repairs himself. And immediately he began discovering all the little details that are so easy to take for granted. There were drawers that wouldn’t open, mould under the sink, electrical appliances that suddenly refused to function. “Saving Money” had cost him more than paying a professional would have. At the end of the day, Paige and Brendan decided to call Dream Doors Kitchens.
A lot of what Paige and Brendan wanted changed were major structural issues. They wanted a shorter counter with more depth for a better working area, and new locations for all their appliances. They wanted more cabinet space, a bin drawer, and they wanted changes to the layout.
Our team came in to fix the minor problems from earlier home repair projects and then to polish off the big pieces of work quickly. We added space by cutting a interior window between the living room and the kitchen. And on top of all that, we kept the style consistent with other touches and accents throughout the home, to ensure that the minimalist design still looked like it belonged in the same house as the other, more traditional rooms.
Not including a brief delay to order special materials, it took us five days to install all the changes that Paige and Brendan wanted to make.
